What We Are

Fanapi CARE is the health and wellness initiative of the Fanapi Foundation, a sponsored project of the United Charitable, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity organization based near Washington, D.C., (Tax ID #20-4286082). Through our CARE initiative, Fanapi Foundation focuses on empowering our people particularly women and children with preventative health education while providing health services through global partnerships and local advocacy. We call on volunteer dentists,  health educators, doctors, technicians to travel to our remote island communities to provide services while teaching our people with the preventative care for self-help.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make quality health care and equipment accessible to the people of Micronesia specifically the under-served population in the small remote outer islands. But part of that health care is to provide preventative measures to keep the people in these remote islands healthy.

Our Services

kid3DENTAL CARE: Our dental care project (formerly, Micronesia Dental Service Project (MDSP) was founded in 2004 to support the efforts of local dentists in Chuuk State by providing donated equipment and supplies to the Chuuk State Dental Health Clinic. In 2008 we expanded our services based on the dire need of service delivery by bringing teams of volunteer dentists, health educators, hygienists to operate free dental clinics to the women and children in Chuuk.

kid5EYE CARE: Fanapi Foundation is looking to develop partnerships with global eye health organizations and individuals to provide much needed optometric and eye care services to the people living in the outer islands of Micronesia. We are seeking volunteer optometrists and other eye care professionals to travel to Chuuk for the inaugural Eye CARE Fanapi team to provide basic eye care and glasses to enable children and women to see. Such services are needed as the government public health department provides no such services to the people.

133-preventative-carePREVENTATIVE CARE: Preventive health care must be improved to combat the increase of obesity, diabetes, and other health problems in the outer islands of the Northwest region. We need to re-educate our people on preventive measures such as the need to lead less sedentary lifestyles. Parents must be educated on the lifestyle and diet changes happening to our people as a way to return to our more healthy food choices. The lack of preventative health services threatens the lives and future of the future generation of Chuukese. Health education must be part of the school curriculum as an early way to educate future Chuukese on preventative health skills.

The Fanapi Care Clinic would serve as the hub of all health care services provided by visiting volunteers, managing the shipment of health supplies to the outer islands, and become a training place for future local health professionals.
