Dental Care

kid3Mission: The mission of the Dental CARE project is to make quality dental care and dental equipment accessible to the impoverished people in the Pacific island nation of Micronesia specifically the under-served population from the small and remote outer islands.

History: Our dental care program was founded by Dr. Barry Staley, DDS in 2004 to support the work in Chuuk by his daughter Desha Staley-Raatior and her Chuukese husband Vid Raatior who were volunteer teachers and administrators at Xavier High School. It began asĀ  the Micronesia Dental Service Project (MDSP) in 2004 to support the efforts of local dentists in Chuuk State by providing donated equipment and supplies to the Chuuk State Hospital’s dental clinic. In 2008 we expanded our services based on the dire need of service delivery by bringing teams of volunteer dentists, health educators, hygienists to operate free dental clinics to the women and children in Chuuk. In 2013, the MDSP was incorporated into the expanded Health CARE initiative of the Fanapi Foundation.
