In the summer of 2008, the MDSP launched its inaugural trip to Chuuk, Micronesia in partnership with the Chuuk State Dental Health Clinic, Xavier High School, Saramen Chuuk Academy, College of Micronesia, Blue Lagoon Resort & Dive Shop, Pollap Community Center, Chuuk State Department of Public Affairs, and others. Team 2008 originally set out to serve the Pattiw regions via Houk island in June 2008. Unfortunately, due to high fuel cost and the grounding of the local small airline they were unable to go down to Houk. Undeterred by the unforeseen circumstances, the team proceeded to work with the local contacts on the main island of Weno but they were able to set up the clinics on Weno and Toloas and served over 400 patients.
